ORDINARY DIPLOMA IN NURSING

Minimum entry qualification:

Minimum pass at C in biology and Chemistry and D pass in Physics. Pass in English and Mathematics is an added advantage

Qualification:

Basic Certificate in Nursing

Purpose of Qualification:

Attainment of the qualification will provide the basis for progression to level 5.

 

NTA LEVEL: 4

Competence Descriptor:

The holder of the qualification will be able to apply skills and knowledge at a routine level under the supervision of a licensed nurse as a learner.

Entry Requirements:

Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with passes in Science subjects; Physics or Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology at least grade D or above, and a pass in English language is an added advantage.

 Qualification:

Technician Certificate in Nursing and Midwifery

Purpose of Qualification:

The qualification is intended for a person who will apply knowledge and skills, principles and standards of nursing and midwifery to provide nursing care to the newborn, child and reproductive health services as well as promoting health of individuals, families and communities.

 

NTA LEVEL: 5

Competence Descriptor:

The holder of the qualification will be able to apply skills and knowledge in a range of activities, some of which are non-routine and be able to assume operational responsibilities.

Entry Requirements:

Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with passes in Science subjects; Physics or Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology at least grade D or above, and a pass in English language is an added advantage.

 MINIMUM CREDIT:         

Minimum credit at this level 120

MAXIMUM CREDIT

Total credit at this level 130

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

A candidate who has successfully completed NTA level 4

 Qualification:

Ordinary Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery

Purpose of Qualification:

The qualification is intended for a person who will apply knowledge and skills, principles and standards of nursing and midwifery and sciences in providing evidence based midwifery, medical, Surgical and Mental health care as well as supportive supervision in a health facility and community setting.

Competence level Descriptor:

The holder of the qualification will be able to apply skills and knowledge in a broad range of work activities, most of which are non-routine activities.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

A candidate who has successfully completed NTA level 5

Nursing Curriculum

Objective of assessment

The main objective of the assessment is to set a comprehensive system of measuring the achievement of the learning outcomes. It provides a yardstick for which the expected outcomes and benchmarking items are evaluated

Principle of assessment

Principally assessment will:

Reflect the aim and objectives of the overall programme

Be designed to help assist student learning in their development in self-directed learners and the acquisition of essential nursing and midwifery skills.

Be varied, to facilitate motivation and recognition of the need to adopt approaches, which enable students to demonstrate that they have fulfilled learning objectives.

Reflect progression through studying modules and semesters, which increasingly more complex assessment methods being associated with higher order skills.
